Town Center Guide

By The Hive Makes

When to upgrade, what each level unlocks, and how to avoid bottlenecks.

Note on terminology: The Town Center is the main central building in your city. Some community players refer to it by informal names, but the game's own UI labels it Town Center — confirmed from in-game screenshots. It is not called a Furnace, Stronghold, or Headquarters.

Why the Town Center matters most

The Town Center is the single most important building in your city. Every other building caps at your Town Center's current level — you cannot upgrade a Barracks or Academy past your Town Center. It also gates troop tiers, research unlocks, and hero equipment crafting. If you only upgrade one thing, upgrade this.

Because everything downstream depends on it, the Town Center is also the building most players under-prioritize. They spend speedups on troop training or hero gear instead of the one upgrade that would unlock the next tier of everything.

Unlock table — Levels 1 through 30

Below is the verified list of what becomes available at each Town Center level. This is the real progression path — use it to plan which buildings to rush and which to hold.

Truegold tiers — TG1 through TG10

After Level 30, the Town Center does not simply stop. It enters a separate endgame progression called Truegold. TG levels are numbered TG1 through TG10, and each one demands increasingly rare resources including Truegold and Tempered materials. TG10 is the current endgame cap.

TG10 alone reportedly requires 175 Truegold, 140 Tempered materials, and 20 days of upgrade time. This is why mid-game players often look at the TG tier and assume it's impossible — it is not, but it is strictly long-term.

When to upgrade — priority framework

Early game (Town Center 1-10)

  • Rush every level. The unlock density at low levels is enormous — Levels 4, 6, 7, 8, and 9 each open multiple core buildings. Delaying even one level costs you days of compounding.
  • Build prerequisites alongside the upgrade. The game enforces dependencies (e.g., Sawmill must be built before certain Town Center upgrades). Don't let missing prerequisites block a level-up.
  • Save speedups for Town Center timers, not troop training. Troops are cheap compared to the cascade effect of unlocking new tiers.

Mid game (Town Center 11-21)

  • Level 15 unlocks Hero Equipment crafting. This is the first big mid-game payoff. Reaching 15 should be a deliberate goal — everything before it is preparation.
  • Level 20 unlocks Mastery Crafting. Prioritize reaching this before investing heavily in hero gear, because higher-tier crafting starts here.
  • Start the KvK preparation cycle. If your server is approaching its first Kingdom vs Kingdom event, slow Town Center upgrades so you keep troops and resources available for the event.

Late game (Town Center 22-30)

  • Level 22 unlocks Lord Equipment. This is where elite players distinguish themselves. Lord gear is a significant jump in power.
  • Level 25 unlocks Lord Gems. Lord Gems let you refine and push Lord equipment further. Hitting 25 before investing heavily in Lord gear saves significant refinement costs.
  • Level 30 unlocks the TG progression path. If you're aiming for endgame, Level 30 is the gateway. Plan months of resource accumulation before attempting the TG tiers.

Endgame (TG1-TG10)

  • Truegold is consumed at TG levels. You cannot rush TG without farming Truegold, which comes from specific events, Lord chests, and daily activities.
  • TG10 is multi-week even for heavy spenders. Plan a year out.
  • Every TG level contributes to overall kingdom power, making long-term investment worthwhile for KvK rankings.

Common mistakes

  • Upgrading surrounding buildings past the dependency point. If your Town Center is at Level 9 and you try to upgrade your Barracks to Level 10, the game will block you. Always check that the Town Center is ahead.
  • Skipping Hall of Heroes (unlocked at Level 4). Hall of Heroes is where hero shards are used. Players who delay this delay their hero progression.
  • Ignoring Level 15 Hero Equipment gate. If you're hoarding hero gear materials but your Town Center is 13, those materials are sitting idle. Push to 15 first.
  • Investing in Town Center past what your alliance is ready for. If you're the only Town Center 22 in a Town Center 18 alliance, you become a target without protection. Coordinate with your alliance on tempo.
