Your hook keeps rising when you expected it to keep going down, you can't find the Sunken Treasure Hunt page even though you've played a few rounds, and the Horn of the Tide, Ocean Scanner, Reel and Lantern are each a one-line Help Center answer that only clicks once read together. Here's what the Help Center actually says, before you burn your limited daily Bait fumbling blind.

Fishing Tournament is a solo governor's minigame — your own hook, your own line, your own Bait. There's no alliance coordination and no opposing side; it's the same family as Eternity's Reach, a personal mechanic you run on your own clock. Per the Help Center, the event itself is available every 4 weeks, and its season rotates in a fixed order: winter, spring, summer, then fall.
This is the single most confusing moment for a new player. Your hook descends into the water, and at some point it stops moving downward and starts rising on its own — it feels broken, but it isn't. Per the Help Center: after the hook touches other objects for certain times (2 or 4 times), it stops descending and starts rising. That's the trigger. The hook isn't stuck and isn't out of range — it has simply hit its touch limit for that descent and reversed direction, which is your cue to start fishing on the way back up.
Once the hook is rising, catching a fish comes down to one piece of aim the Help Center states plainly: nudge the fish's head with your hook. Nudging the tail does nothing. You can keep hooking additional fish on the way up, up to your line's max weight — it isn't a one-fish-per-descent limit, it's a weight limit.
This is the detail that's easy to get wrong mid-event, because it reads like one requirement when it's actually two:
Per the Help Center: the initial amount of Bait is 5, it restores 1 every 3 hours, and the storage cap is 10. Bait is the gate on how many rounds you can run in a sitting — know the hook and hooking mechanics above before you spend it.
The Help Center's Fishing Tournament section (9 raw links, 8 real articles, all read for this page) doesn't state fish point values, rarity tiers, leaderboard rewards, or exact Horn of the Tide / Ocean Scanner cooldowns. This page doesn't invent those figures — check your in-game Events screen for them.
The fishing event is available every 4 weeks.
After touching other objects for certain times (2 or 4 times), the Hook stops moving downward and starts rising — this is how the mechanic works, not a bug.

Upgrade all your Fishing Kits to the max level — unlocking the page and being able to participate are two separate thresholds.
Nudge the head of the fish with your hook when the line is coming back up; nudging the tail does nothing. You can keep hooking fish up to your line's max weight.
Horn of the Tide summons and illuminates attracted fish and also activates the Ocean Scanner while extending or retracting your line. The Ocean Scanner on its own activates on retracting your line, pinpointing nearby rare fish. Accidentally hitting a fish on the way down pulls your line back, but you get 2 penalty-free accidents per round, plus 2 more from the Reel. The Lantern illuminates the dark ocean depths for better visibility.
The initial amount of Bait is 5, restoring 1 every 3 hours, with a storage limit of 10.
Yes — it changes every season in the order of winter, spring, summer, and fall.
