Star-ups consume hero shards on a rising curve, and the per-star tables in this calculator are community-estimated — flagged [EST] in our sources — because the game does not publish them and some heroes deviate from the standard ladder (hero-specific variations are not yet modeled here). The shape is trustworthy even where individual numbers may drift: early stars cost tens of shards, late stars hundreds, and epic and legendary heroes run on different ladders entirely.

What the curve means for spending

• The final stars of a legendary hero can cost more shards than everything before them combined — check what a "just one more star" push really costs before committing event shards.
• Which hero deserves the shards is the bigger decision: our hero database carries per-role ratings with sources, and our F2P hero guide covers who stays relevant across generations.
• Verify your specific hero's next-star cost in-game against the table; if it differs, the in-game number wins — and we would genuinely like to hear about it via the community Commons.
